We know that's going to be the number one killer by 2010," Dan Sirota, global business leader of Cook's Interventional Radiology, told MD&DI. "Although the economy may be down, these patients need the products. It's only appropriate that we focus on the patient here and not get distracted by the economy."The unit is planning several launches, and Sirota anticipates double-digit growth for this year. "We think we'll be able to compete very well. I think we're fortunate to be a private company amidst the challenges of public companies." The new SBU grew out of existing products that were part of Cook's Peripheral Intervention unit and "nonarterial" in nature, according to Sirota. Its product families address venous access, drainage, gastroenterology, and the spine (vertebralplasty).Cook's restructured Peripheral Intervention SBU will focus more on stents, filters, and embolization coils. The unit will continue to push key initiatives in leg therapy (peripheral arterial disease), the superficial femoral artery, embolic therapy, and inferior vena cava filters.
