Bid for Biomet is Imminent

Orthopedics maker Smith & Nephew this week is expected to bid about $11 billion to acquire rival Biomet, reports the New York Times. Biomet has put itself up for sale, and private equity firms may be interested, too. If consummated, the deal would be one of the largest in industry history, and would double the size of Smith & Nephew, which in 2003 lost out to Zimmer in a bid to acquire Centerpulse.
