Edward Brown
In December 2014, Edward Brown was sentenced to two years in prison for using an industrial laser as a medical devical to treat patients with cancer and other conditions. Brown bought a laser that had been made for industrial use and that of course had never received FDA approval. Brown, who was not a physician, tricked patients with cancer and other conditions into "treatment" with the laser, according to the U.S. Department of Justice press release, charging $300 per "treatment" and offering discounts in some cases.
Brown's sentence: Two years in prison, followed by one year of court supervision, $19,925 in restitution, and a $10,000 fine
