Texas Introduces Emerging Technology Fund Initiative

Susan Wallace

Texas governor Rick Perry has announced a $300 million Emerging Technology Fund Initiative. The initiative will likely bring medical technology–related economic growth and jobs to the state.

The fund will be used to expedite innovation and commercialization while creating jobs and stimulating research and development in key technology focus areas. The program will work through partnerships between the state, academia, and private industry. Centers of Innovation to facilitate technology commercialization will be established with an allocated $150 million.

The initiative will provide funds to match federal or private grants to Texas universities in an effort to attract world-renowned researchers to the state’s institutions of higher learning.
