BIOMEDevice San Jose will include a "Rapid-Fire Pitch Competition." Here's how you can get in on the action.

The organizers of BIOMEDevice San Jose are offering a chance for healthcare technology startups to gain publicity by participating in the inaugural "Rapid-Fire Pitch Competition." 

Participating startups will each have the opportunity to present their one-minute elevator pitch to a panel of investors to gain invaluable feedback and a chance to secure investment. Three winners will win prizes (described below) and will win valuable publicity from one or more of UBM's publications. In addition, all participants will be mentioned in conference press release leading up to the event date and in conference program.

The deadline is Friday, November 20, to have a chance to participate in the competition at BIOMEDevice San Jose, which runs December 2-3. Fill out the form below the prize descriptions to start.

The First-Place Prize

The first place winner in the contest will win a Makerbot Replicator Mini 3-D printer, a desktop 3-D printer designed to provide easy, affordable, and portable 3-D printing. More than 500,000 free, predesigned, and ready-to-print 3-D models can be printed using the device. The Replicator Mini also features a swappable Smart Extruder to minimize downtime by enabling worn extruders to be replaced in minutes. An onboard camera is included to facilitate print monitoring and can be  shared via the MakerBot Thingiverse and social networks. The printer is also compatible with the manufacturer's MakerBot Mobile network that enables files to be sent via Wi-Fi and design files to be stored in the cloud.

The Second-Place Prize

The second-place winner will be awarded a Nest Learning Thermostat, the most popular smart thermostat available today. The thermostat can learn what temperature ranges you like, and turns itself down when you're away. It can be controlled from anywhere there is a Wi-Fi signal. The thermostat can reportedly save up to 20% on your heating and cooling bill. In addition, the device is compatible with a number of other smart-home devices as well. The Nest works with 95% of low-voltage heating and cooling systems, including gas, electric, forced air, heat pump, radiant, oil, hot water, solar, and geothermal technologies.

The Third-Place Prize

Finally, a fitness tracker that doesn't make its wearer look like a dufus. The MisFit Shine is a device with an interesting back story. The company behind it was founded by two medical device veterans--Sonny Vu and Sridhar Iyengar, who had cofounded diabetes firm Agamatrix together. The two hooked up with former Apple chief executive and Pepsi president John Sculley to create a sleek looking health monitor. When the device was still in the prototype stage, it raised $846,000 on the crowdfunding site Indiegogo.

The ultimate success of the Shine has given MisFit the freedom to branch out into other areas besides health tracking. The company is now active in the smart home sector as well.
