Laser Cutting System Cuts Stents in Less than One Minute

A compact high-precision machine cuts tubular medical implants, stents, and components. The StarCut Tube laser cutting system can cut an 8-mm-long coronary stent in less than 1 minute and can achieve maximum accuracy of a few microns with high long-term stability, according to the manufacturer. Performance parameters of the laser source are adjusted to the travel speed of the motion system by the laser’s control unit, and the company maintains that the smallest radii pose no problem. Contour trajectory is viewable on the TFT monitor at any time. Different laser technologies can integrate with the system to address varying material processing needs, including kerf widths ranging from 15 to 30 µm. Laser source, controls, and motion systems are integrated in the housing. Options include an automatic tube-loading feature or wet-cutting capabilities.

System Can Simultaneously Cut Tubes with Dissimilar Diameters

Designed for limited production runs, a hand-fed system cuts plastic, rubber, and elastomeric tubing. The Model 125B-1 tube cutter is suited for use with tubing from 3 in. to any length, and with diameters up to 2 in. Tubing with dissimilar lengths and diameters may be cut with the same machine using interchangeable bushing sets sized to customer specifications. Depending on material hardness, wall thickness, and material composition, users may also cut two tubes with different diameters, up to ¾ in., at the same time. The system is pneumatically operated by a finger switch or foot pedal, has adjustable blade ram speed, and includes such optional features as a counter, additional bushing sets, and extra blades.

Catheter Manufacturing Equipment Tapers, Tips, and Welds Thermoplastics

Equipment for the manufacture of catheters tapers, tips, and welds thermoplastics and bonds balloons in finished catheter assemblies. The Pirf and Saffire systems operate using a patented low-mass die design process, which can cycle up to 300°C in less than 1⁄8 of a second with an average die life of 3 million to 5 million cycles, according to the company. System Processes Tubing to Tight Specifications

Suited for the processing of flexible tubing to very tight specifications, a system cuts wire, tubing, and sleeving to the programmed length and number of pieces. The Model WC601B rotary blade tubing cutter is equipped with nine variable feed rates that enable the operator to select the correct rate for a given material. This capability allows users to optimize production rate and repeatability as well as the accuracy of the cut length, according to the manufacturer. Variables for frequently run jobs can be preprogrammed via a batching feature. A kitting feature permits multiple pieces of different lengths to be cut within one batch. The system employs a combination of an adjustable dual-driven belt feed and a rotary cutting head, coupled with a stepper drive system. Features such as the belt feed and rotary cutter prevent crushing of material along its length or on the cut ends.
