(SKD; Marina del Rey, CA) recently redesigned a continuous, noninvasive blood pressure monitoring system for Tensys Medical Inc. (San Diego). The product is based on Tensymetry, the company's patented technology for noninvasively extracting the continuous beat-to-beat pressure waveform from the radial artery. Although the TL-150 is a significant improvement over alternative methods, an earlier model had low adoption because of the target audience's resistance to training and demonstration. The redesign makes the product easy to learn and set up so that this technological advancement can find greater traction in the medical community. SKD designed the TL-150 to serve as its own instruction manual, using large tabs, labels, pictograms, and color-coding to guide the user step by step through the setup process.
