Analog Air Gage

An air gage uses either single or dual master air tooling. The Universal Dimensionair from Mahr Federal (Providence, RI; www.mahr.com) is part of a series of adjustable magnification air comparators that combine a differential air system with single or dual master air gaging system capabilities. The user sets system sensitivity by adjusting the air comparator span to correspond to the difference between minimum and maximum setting masters, thus setting the sensitivity of all the gaging system’s components. A zeroing control brings the span to a balanced position on the dial. The gage is available with a range of interchangeable dials for selecting magnifications from 1250:1 to 10000:1 in inch or metric scales. Dials are quickly exchanged by a snap-off bezel. The company also offers tooling adapters to allow virtually any brand of air gage tooling to be easily adapted to the gage.

Swiss-Type Lathe

A Swiss-type lathe is designed to upgrade current automatic CAM type users to CNC Swiss-type users. The A-16 four-axis Swiss-type lathe offered by Marubeni Citizen-Cincom Inc. (Allendale, NJ; www.marucit.com) features a built-in, belt-free main spindle motor housing. The maximum speed of the main spindle is 10000 rpm and the standard independent subspindle has a maximum speed of 6000 rpm. Three cross live tools, four front drills, and four back drills also come standard on the A-16. The lathe is controlled by a Fanuc Series 0i-T Model B system and has four cutting axes.

Thermoformable Bottom Web

A copolymer blend used in a thermoformable bottom web adds toughness and clarity. The ClearForm bottom web from Rollprint Packaging Products Inc. (Addison, IL; www.rollprint.com) also features an unusually wide thermoforming processing window. When coupled with the company’s Allegro line of peelable top webs, the total package offers machine-friendly forming and sealing characteristics, end-use durability, and a smooth, peelable, tamper-evident seal. The web is appropriate for use with coated Tyvek or paper, and is suitable for both EtO and gamma sterilization.

Digital Counting Scale

A low-cost, battery-operated scale is lightweight for easy portability. The Alliance/OHAUS EC series digital counting scale from Alliance Scale Inc. (Canton, MA; www.alliancescale.com) has a sealed keypad and three-window backlit LCD that displays weight, average piece weight (APW), and count. Preset tare, dedicated tare, and sample keys for common operations are also provided. The scale features positive or negative counting, manual APW for parts with known average piece rate, autooptimization for recalculating APW, and 10 memory locations for storing commonly used parts weights. Other standard features include an 80-hour internal rechargeable battery with automatic shut-off.

DEHP-Free Tubing

A non-DEHP tubing product offers resistance to chemicals. Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics (Portage, WI; www.tygonecmo.com) has developed its Tygon ECMO tubing for use in critical medical applications. The tubing is ideal for contact with blood and withstands both EtO and gamma sterilization. It is designed for the demanding conditions of extracorporeal membrane oxygenations procedures. The tubing is also suitable for kidney dialysis pumps and other peristaltic pump applications, as well as for blood and IV solutions. The company’s rigorous testing process found that Tygon ECMO is nonpyrogenic and nontoxic in systemic toxicity, intracutaneous reactivity, cytotoxicity, hemocompatibility, and intramuscular implant testing.
