Voice Coil Actuator

A voice coil actuator offers continuous force in a small package size. The VM1614 actuator from Gee Plus Inc. (Elgin, SC; www.geeplus.biz) develops a near-constant 2.7 oz of continuous force over a stroke of 0.155 in. A peak force of 7.2 oz is available for accelerating customer loads. The actuator is 0.63 in. O.D. with a length of 0.55 in. It weighs approximately 0.53 oz. The linear motion profile is constant over a range of strokes and excitation levels in both directions of operation. Three coil designs are available for different voltages and velocity constants. The low coil inductance and use of high-energy, rare-earth magnets creates an actuator with cycle times as low as 1 ms.

Pressure Transmitters

A series of pressure transmitters can be used with corrosive and aggressive liquids and gases. The KTU3000 series of industrial pressure transmitters from Sensortechnics Inc. (Walpole, MA; www.sensortechnics.com) uses media wetted housing material that is manufactured from a highly chemical-resistant polyphenylensulfide. The sensors in the units can be calibrated according to customer requirements in the range of 7.5 to 1500 psi with gage, vacuum, or absolute pressure options. Several current or voltage output signals are available. A G ¼ male thread and a DIN43650 plug are supplied as standard pressure and electrical connections.

Wire-to-Board Connector

A low-profile wire-to-board connector has a 2.0 A current rating for both two- and three-circuit units using wire size 28 AWG at 50 V ac/dc. Offered by JST Corp. (Waukegan, IL; www.jst.com), the connector measures 4.3 × 1.4 mm. The connector features a socket half that is mated with the header from the vertical direction, while the wires come out from the horizontal direction of the socket connector. Temperature range is -25° to 85° C, including temperature rise in applying electrical current. The header plating is lead-free and is RoHS-compliant. Headers are provided on embossed tape for automatic insertion equipment.

Coreless Dc Motors

A line of coreless dc motors feature rapid acceleration and high efficiency in a compact size. The motors from Telco Intercontinental Corp. (Houston, TX; www.telcointercon.com) use double-winding technology to increase the products' lifespan and decrease noise. The units are available in frame sizes of 16, 20, 22, 28, and 36 mm and have voltage ranges from 3 to 48 V dc. Output power is between 0.5 and 50 W. The motors come equipped with a precious-metal brush, and ball bearings are available upon request.

Tension Gas Springs

A maker of adjustable and fixed-force gas springs has added tension gas springs to its product line. Constructed from 316 stainless steel, the tension gas springs from Ameritool Manufacturing LLC (Central Square, NY; www.ameritoolmfg.com) can be used on doors, lids, hatches, and hoods that need to stay closed. Tension gas springs work by keeping the piston rod in the closed position, operating in the opposite direction of other gas springs. Since a tension gas spring is compressed in its relaxed state, it always returns to its relaxed state once extension is stopped. The springs come in lengths ranging from 9.34 in. extended to 33.4 in. extended. Operating temperature range is -40° to 300° F.
