BUSINESS PLANNING & TECHNOLOGY DEVELOPMENT

The Envisio microbial testing device—developed by (Irvine, CA) for Centrus International Inc.—is a desktop instrument and assay test cassette that uses paramagnetic microparticles, which bind to target E. coli microbes during the test cycle. The results are displayed, interpreted, and printed in less than 30 seconds. The system has its own built-in central processing unit and printer, and calibrates itself each time it is turned on. Until the development of the device, the food industry did not have access to a system capable of such accuracy, speed, and sensitivity. The instrument is aimed toward high-volume test sites; therefore, it was designed to be easy to operate. There are only two buttons: one for the printer paper feed and the other to cancel the process. The Omnica team was challenged to combine just-perfected technology from one company with reagent chemistries from another into an innovative, sleek, and distinctive package.
