Millipore Forms New Diagnostics Unit

millipore.jpgA provider of membranes, chromatography media products, and custom and bulk antibodies has formed a business unit that will develop, market, and sell materials to diagnostic manufacturers. The formation of the diagnostics strategic business unit (SBU) is the result of Millipore (Billerica, MA) integrating the product offerings of Chemicon, Upstate, and Celliance—all acquired from Serologicals in July—with the company’s OEM Membrane and Media Group.

The newly integrated companies will expand Millipore’s product portfolio. Chemicon and Upstate contribute a combined 23 years of experience in reagent production and a broad selection of antibodies, including more than 4000 hybridoma cell lines in house. Celliance contributes its Bioscot blood-typing monoclonal antibodies in various forms, from standard intermediates to ‘for further manufacturing’ stages to finished reagents. Millipore will offer the expertise of Chemicon, Upstate, and Celliance to companies that need antibodies for diagnostic applications.

In addition, Millipore’s diagnostics SBU will continue offering existing OEM products, which include a variety of hydrophilic, hydrophobic, ultrafiltration, and diagnostic membranes, as well as chromatography media products.

The new business unit is headquartered in Bedford, MA.
