Item Group Creates Ximedica

Item Group has announced the creation of Ximedica, a contract design, development, and manufacturing company specializing in capital and disposable medical devices and instruments. The new subsidiary was launched to focus on the needs of the industry, specifically to be a single-source provider from concept and design to manufacturing.

Ximedica offers fully integrated design, development, and engineering services in addition to offshore sourcing, U.S. assembly, quality control, and packaging. The company has offices in Hong Kong and China but is headquartered in Providence, RI, at the 81,000-sq-ft corporate headquarters of Item Group. Serving as CEO is Bob Pelletier, an industry veteran who believes the company's single-source approach will help it compete.

Ximedica will be based in Providence, RI.

“We can take responsibility for the entire process, offering our clients a critical advantage in terms of speed to profit,” he says.

Aside from the fully integrated services, Ximedica also works with medical device companies to commercialize new technologies and improve human factors for both providers and patients. The company specializes in mechanical and electronics design as well as firmware and software implementation. Ximedica also offers design control, compliance-related documentation tracking, and offshore sourcing of components and subassemblies.
