Heat-Shrink Tubing

A tubing option added to a medical heat-shrink line is designed to accelerate and simplify installation by eliminating the need for processing aids such as an overtube or fusion sleeve and by recovering quickly. Altera MT-PBX tubing, with a single-wall construction of polyether block amide copolymer (PEBA), achieves shrink ratios of 2:1 or 4:1 as standard, with custom ratios available. The PEBA materials meet USP Class VI standards and withstand repeated sterilization by means of autoclaving, gamma irradiation, EtO, steam, or dry heat. The tubing is available in application-specific formulations and in a variety of colors, as well as in a hardness range extending from 25 to 72 Shore D to accommodate uses for both rigid and flexible tubing. Applications for which it is suitable include strain relief, mechanical protection, insulation, and color coding.
