IV filter

Available with standard connector configurations, an IV filter device is designed for high-flow-rate applications. The IV-3 high-flow filter with PES membrane can minimize IV therapy prep time. The low drug-binding characteristics of the membrane ensure safe delivery and dosing accuracy of critical drugs. Delivering 23% higher flow rates than standard IV-3 filters, the filter provides the same broad drug compatibility, total bacterial retention, and Class IV biological safety as the standard line, according to the manufacturer.

A company offers high-density polyethylene filters with nylon fittings. Straight, elbow, and tee connector configurations are available. Constructed to connect to the outlet side of air and liquid lines, the filters are designed to eliminate contaminants in the lines, as well as debris that can enter the lines from worn O-rings or the inlet side of the component, according to the manufacturer. Filter ratings range from 10 to 50 µm. Fittings and hose barbs are available in 1⁄8-, 1⁄4-, 3⁄8-, and 1⁄2-in. sizes.

Process filter

Featuring an overmolded or welded polypropylene housing, a 50-mm process filter is offered for use in various applications. Engineered for high-performance venting or liquid applications, the filter has a standard 0.2-µm PTFE membrane. Liquid applications can include aqueous solutions, high-performance liquid and gas chromatography solvents, cell-culture media, and protein solutions. Though the welded filter achieves burst pressures of only 50 psi versus the 100-psi burst pressure capability of the overmolded version, the welded filter offers a lower profile and cost-efficient design. The housing comes standard with 1⁄4-, 3⁄8-, or 1⁄2-in barbed ports. Custom port configurations and membrane options are available. Custom inlet and outlet connection options are also offered.

In addition to IV filters, a manufacturer offers syringe and infusion filters. The filters provide low drug binding and high flow rates in standard and customizable designs, according to the company. The syringe filters are available in 18- and 25-mm versions and are designed to help prevent bacterial and particle contamination. A variety of housing materials, membrane types, pore sizes, and connectors are offered. Infusion filters feature positively charged nylon membranes for endotoxin retention. The filters also offer good priming and ventilation characteristics and are latex and PVC free.
