David Schnur Associates (DSA), a supplier of outsourced technical sales and marketing services for the medical device industry, recently announced an exclusive, multi-year strategic agreement with laser micromachining provider OpTek Systems. The company is headquartered in Oxford, U.K., with facilities in Boston, Mass.; Greenville, S.C.; and Dongguan, China. OpTek is part of Humanetics, a global industrial technology company with extensive experience servicing the needs of the world’s largest automotive, aerospace, defense, and biomedical customers with custom sensor, fiber optics, and micromachining solutions.

OpTek provides precision laser micromachining capabilities drawing on decades of experience in lasers, optics, laser/material interactions, automation, inspection and control in state-of-the-art facilities. Known for designing and building laser production equipment tailored to customer needs, OpTek has been a contract manufacturer for precision laser micromachining for more than 20 years. The company leverages a diverse range of laser wavelengths to provide capabilities including precision microhole drilling in polymer applications such as microtubing and balloons for filtration and precise drug dosing control.

“This partnership will allow us to offer our customers a pathway from process validation to full-scale production in precision laser micromachining and optical processing at locations on three continents,” said DSA CEO Barry Schnur. “The OpTek team has deep understanding of lasers that began with building excimer laser systems and grew to encompass the interaction of different wavelengths with polymers and other complex materials. Their investment in growing their laser micromachining, optical processing, and contract manufacturing capabilities makes this a very exciting opportunity for our customers.”
