Cables and Assemblies Enable End-Users to See the Light

Custom fiber-optic cables and assemblies by Fiberoptic Components are suited for a variety of applications, including endoscopes.

After years of supplying guiding lights for surgical and diagnostic applications, Fiberoptic Components LLC (Sterling, MA) will have the tables turned as it steps into the spotlight as a first-time exhibitor at MD&M West.

The company manufactures custom fiber-optic cables and assemblies in configurations applicable for light guides, endoscopes, surgical instruments, and surgical headlight cables. Rapid prototyping
and CAD 3-D product design are combined with custom tool design, manufacturing, and packaging services, enabling the company to serve
as a vertically integrated supplier.

The firm’s mission is to help customers thrive in highly competitive markets, says Larry Kosiba, president. “This is why we have adopted lean manufacturing principles,” he says. “Our customized manufacturing processes have been designed and refined to ensure quality and fast turnaround so that customers can keep their costs down.”

The technical and operations team boasts more than 150 years of collective experience in fiber-optic illumination.That expertise spans a variety of fiber-optic types, including quartz, plastic, and borosilicate fiber, as well as a variety of cable sheathing types with custom and standard distal or proximal adaptors.

Standard and custom end fittings and medical light guides can be incorporated into the company’s cables, which are suitable for minimally invasive surgical instruments. The light guides, as well as the company’s surgical headlight cables, are compatible with Steris, steam autoclave, and EtO sterilization methods, and can be supplied with crush-resistant sheathing as well.

Manufacturing takes place in a 25,000-sq ft facility, and the company is certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 standards. The firm is also CE, RoHS, and FDA compliant.
