AdvaMed Urges CMS to Postpone IPPS Changes

AdvaMed wants CMS to wait a year before implementing the changes proposed in the hospital inpatient prospective payment system (IPPS). In its formal comments, the association stated that the changes are the most complex in more than 20 years, and the 60-day comment period was insufficient to fully assess the effect of the proposals. Delaying the changes until FY 2008 would give CMS, hospitals, doctors, patients, device manufacturers, and other stakeholders the chance to review the changes before they are applied. AdvaMed has released extensive and detailed comments, which are available online at www.advamed.org/publicdocs/2006_ipps_nprm_final.pdf. For more industry feedback about the proposed rule, see NewsTrends, in the July 2006 edition of MD&DI.
