PerkinElmer Acquires Opto Technology

The future looks bright for PerkinElmer (Fremont, CA), thanks to the latest strategical move to identify and acquire companies with capabilities that are complementary to its own. PerkinElmer today announced the acquisition of Opto Technology Inc. (Wheeling, IL), a supplier specializing in light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and related subsystems. In addition to expanding PerkinElmer's LED offerings, the acquisition increases the company's presence as a supplier to the medical device industry. Opto Technology's core competencies lie in integrating high-power LEDs with optics, photo detectors, and custom filters to achieve targeted wavelengths for such medical applications as surgical instruments."The addition of Opto Technology expands PerkinElmer's presence in the solid-state specialty lighting marketplace and broadens the portfolio of LED subsystem capabilities that we can provide to our OEM customers," says David Nislick, president of PerkinElmer's Illuminations and Detection Solutions division.
