5 Most Underpaid MedTech CEOs

One might argue that CEOs in general are overpaid, as pay for top U.S. executives has far outstripped middle class wages in recent decades. In reality, CEO pay is closely linked to long-term performance and median CEO pay fell considerably from 2000 to 2010, as economist Steve Kaplan has pointed out.

Between 2012 and 2013, among 17 of the largest U.S. medical device companies, average CEO compensation fell nearly 15%, to $11.0 million. The companies' average stock prices during the respective time periods increased more than 20%. All 17 of the largest medtech firms saw stock performance outstrip top executive compensation in 2013.

Here are the top five CEOs with the best track record relative to their compensation.
