Medtech in a Minute: 3D-Printed Breasts, a Hands-Free Robot, and Apple's Healthy Appetite

3D-printed breasts are happening, and interventional radiologists get a cool new robot, but first, Apple wants to know all about your menstrual cycle.

Pressed for time? Here's the medtech news you need most, in one minute or less.

Apple's Healthy 'Appetite'

Consumers can now participate in three potentially groundbreaking health studies through their iPhone and Apple Watch. Download the Apple Research app from the App Store to start telling Apple all about your menstrual experience (to help advance women's health research), help researchers better understand the link between mobility and cardiovascular health, or to share how your headphone usage and sound exposure impact your hearing, stress levels, and heart health over time. Pro tip: Make sure you have the latest version of iOS first.

Will 3D-Printed Bioresorbable Scaffolds Replace Silicone Breast Implants?

A first-in-human study will soon be enrolling patients in Germany to try out a 3D-printed technology that could have a big impact on breast reconstruction, augmentation, or revision surgery. A bioresorbable polymer combined with a 3D-printed breast scaffold and fat harvested via liposuction is expected to help the patient's body grow new breast tissue and then absorb the scaffold after it is no longer needed.

XACT Robotics Is Hot to Trot

Armed with FDA clearance and a new $36 million financing round, Isreal-based XACT Robotics is trying to level the playing field in interventional radiology with its tablet-sized, hands-free robot. The robot is designed to bring the technical skills to the table while the doctor contributes his/her "intellectual skills."
