NEWS & ANALYSIS

Thoratec Corp. (Pleasanton, CA) is working in cooperation with Thomas Burnett's wife, Deena Burnett, to launch the Thomas Burnett Family Foundation. Thomas Burnett was a Thoratec executive and one of the United Airlines flight 93 passengers credited with thwarting terrorist efforts in the events of September 11, 2001.

The foundation, officially launched on September 11 of this year, was created by Deena Burnett, in her husband's memory, to help children who have lost a loved one. Working in conjunction with the Moyer Foundation, the Thomas Burnett Family Foundation will endow five children's bereavement summer camps across the United States. It will also raise funds for the 15,000 children who lost a parent in the 9/11 tragedy to attend these bereavement camps and receive general counseling.

At press time, Thoratec was planning to host an internal company fund-raiser to kick-off foundation donations. To make a donation, learn more about the foundation, or enroll a child in bereavement camp, visit the foundation's Web site at http://www.tomburnettfoundation.com, or call 888/845-0039.
