Insert Molding Machine Is Fully Automated

Article-Insert Molding Machine Is Fully Automated

An insert molding system features vertical injection, an integral control, and a six-axis robot.

An insert molding machine will make its North American debut at the NPE show in June. Designed with a vertical clamp and vertical injection, the Boy 55 M VV from Dr. Boy GmbH & Co. KG (Neustadt-Fernthal, Germany) is equipped with a midrange Procan MD control and a robot mounted to its machine base. At the show, the company will be demonstrating the fully encapsulated parts-handling process by molding four different-sized hex keys.

"The user is provided with a fully automated system in which the parts are automatically handled throughout the cycle, ending when the robot delivers a finished product," says Darrel Hill, the company's national sales manager.

Process engineering manager Ken Bush says, "The entire basic automation module may be detached from the machine frame relatively quickly and easily, with the six-axis robot remaining in place. Thus the Boy 55 VV is ready for a new application in no time at all. Very often this increased flexibility is a decisive factor for the user," he continues.

The company also makes the Boy 12 Z that is equipped a 12-mm plasticizing unit and a Procan CT control. The unit can produce a gear with a part weight of 0.0009 g. The molded parts can be extracted from a two-cavity mold and placed in small glass containers via a pneumatic handling system.
