Fortimedix Surgical, a medtech company based in Geleen, The Netherlands, announced via a LinkedIn post that it has been acquired by Medtronic.
In the post, Fortimedix described the deal as a "unique opportunity to leverage our articulating instrument technology for application across patient therapies."
The company makes articulating instrument technology that it says challenges conventional methods and "sets the new standard" for robotic and non-robotic endoscopic therapeutic intervention and minimally invasive surgery.
"Because we do not employ conventional parts machining and assembly, we’re able to realize exceptional performance at cost levels otherwise not achievable," the company states on its website.
As of press time, few details about the acquisition are available.
Medtronic CEO Geoff Martha recently commented on the company's appetite for what he called "smart tuck-in M&A" during the company's fiscal second quarter earnings call Tuesday.
"This is an important part of our growth algorithm," Martha said. "And the type of assets, or the type of M&A we want to do is more tuck-in, and I don't want to forecast exactly where we're prioritizing, but it is more of a top-down approach here where our leadership team is looking at the areas that we're prioritizing and really looking to those areas to be the priority areas for M&A."
That means Medtronic's high-growth markets and high-growth segments, he said, but also some of the company's well-established businesses that need some tuck-in support from time to time to keep them going.
