Medtronic, based in Minneapolis (yes, the move to Ireland is still pending the closing of the Covidien transaction), is the largest pure play medical device company in terms of reveune.

In the last five years the company added 3,000 positions and that led overall employment to jump to 49,000 as of 2013.
