Procedure: Allurion has developed the Elipse Gastric Balloon, which is being billed as the first procedureless gastric balloon. Patients swallow a capsule like substance attached to a capillary tuble that can also be swallowed. Once the capsule reaches the patient's stomach, the balloon is filled from the outside with fluid - up to 600 ml in under 10 minutes. The tube is then detached. The gas balloon takes up room in the stomach making the patient feel full more quickly.
During the period that the gastric balloon is inflated, patients are taught portion control and other healthy lifestyle choices. After the therapy, the balloon is deflated and the fluid and the capsule is released. The capsule is excreted out.
