Erin Smith Chieze said a picture like this helped her recognize breast cancer during a self-exam

Erin Smith Chieze is fed up with the latest game going around Facebook under the auspices of breast cancer awareness.

"We need to give real information, not cute hearts," said Chieze, a breast cancer patient who posted a Facebook rant about the heart game earlier this week.

Similar to the bra color game that went around a few years ago asking women to post their bra color as a Facebook status, the heart game asks women to post hearts on their Facebook wall, without an explanation, in an effort to remind women to "check your boobies!"

Instead of playing along with the heart game, Chieze posted the above picture of an egg carton full of lemons that labels various breast abnormalities that could signal cancer. Seeing a similar photo online is what helped her recognize cancer in her own breast when she noticed a suspicious indentation in December 2015.

"Without having seen a picture randomly with real information, I wouldn't have known what to look for," Chieze said.

The lemons picture was designed by Worldwide Breast Cancer, a non-profit organization founded in 2014 that uses clever, thoughtfully designed materials (like the Know Your Lemons campaign) to improve early detection of the disease. While other breast cancer charities are focused on research and funding a cure, Worldwide Breast Cancer said it is focused on helping people recognize the symptoms of breast cancer as early as possible.
