During the past nine years, Mack Molding Co. (Arlington, VT) has been cultivating its capabilities for serving the medical industry. Now representing about 30% of the company's overall business, the medical industry stands to further benefit from the company's announcement last week at MD&M East of the formation of a medical products group.Branded MackMedical, the group will operate out of the company's headquarters and will be supported by a medical device manufacturing–oriented staff that helps move products from upfront engineering through final manufacturing and distribution. "We have developed a robust medical products group within Mack Molding that represents a rapidly growing business segment of our overall business," says  Jeff Somple, president of Mack Molding's Northern division. "Medical manufacturing will grow to 50% of our business in the near future, as we anticipate adding large-part cleanroom molding and other medical design services."The company's ISO 13485–certified facility is equipped for design, prototyping, metal fabrication, and assembly operations, in addition to molding. To assist medical device customers, the company has added product refurbishment, complaint investigation, and obsolescence to its list of capabilities as well. It has experience in the development of Class III devices, surgical equipment, and disposables, among other products.
