Take CMMs for a Test DriveTake CMMs for a Test Drive

To survive a tanking economy, companies are getting creative as to how to help out their cash-strapped customers and, ultimately, themselves. Faro (Lake Mary, FL), for example, has introduced a Technology Test Drive program for its entire line of 3-D measurement and imaging devices. Along the lines of the Hyundai Assurance program for which most people have seen advertisements, Faro's test drive program allows OEMs to take the company's coordinate-measuring machines and other products for a spin before committing to a purchase.Rather than purchasing the equipment outright, companies pay a monthly fee for a four-month period. Faro installs the technology, provides any necessary setup, and even offers on-site training, as well as unlimited training at a Faro training facility. At the end of the four months, companies can opt to apply their full investment toward the purchase and installation of brand-new equipment or return the product to Faro with no further obligation."Our regional managers have heard from customers throughout all industries that they need our technology to help win contracts, but without those orders, they are hard-pressed to commit the resources to buy essential measurement tools," says David Morse, Faro senior vice president and managing director for the Americas. "Call it a Technology Test Drive or call it a risk-free program, but if we can help them be competitive and win, as well as maintain essential contracts, it is good for our customers, for Faro, and certainly very good for the economy as a whole."
