Establishing best practices for compliance with the European Union's new environmental regulations is an ongoing process in which medical device manufacturers should seek to participate. Key organizations involved in the process include the following.
National Electronics Manufacturing Initiative (www.nemi.org). An industry-led consortium whose mission is to ensure U.S. leadership of the global electronics manufacturing supply chain.
American Electronics Association (www.aeanet.org). This is the nation's largest high-tech trade association. It is currently lobbying to ensure that environmental compliance regulations in the U.S. are sanctioned at a federal level, for fear that each state will have its own (and differing) legislation.
The Electronic Industries Alliance (www.eia.org). A national trade organization that includes U.S. manufacturers, representing more than 80% of the electronics industry. This organization is working on creating guidelines for environmental compliance.
