GE Healthcare wasn’t playing around when it said it wanted to strengthen its presence in digital health. The company took yet another step this week toward this goal by announcing a collaboration with AliveCor, an ECG monitoring specialist.  

The partnership would deliver medical-grade six-lead electrocardiograms (ECGs) taken by patients on an AliveCor KardiaMobile 6L ECG device outside of the hospital setting – at home or on the go – directly into GE Healthcare’s MUSE Cardiac Management System for physicians to view and evaluate. 

Mountain View, CA-based AliveCor’s KardiaMobile can provide instant detection of Atrial Fibrillation, Bradycardia, Tachycardia, Sinus Rhythm with Supraventricular Ectopy, Sinus Rhythm with Premature Ventricular Contractions, Sinus Rhythm with Wide QRS and Normal Heart Rhythm.The company recently received FDA clearance for a credit-card-sized version of the ECG device.

 GE Healthcare’s Muse is a vendor-agnostic solution that connects with a hospital’s EMR to manage and streamline the flow of cardiac information, enabling faster data delivery, distribution, and analysis for more informed decisions and improved patient care.

With this partnership, not only are the ECGs analyzed by GE Healthcare’s algorithms, they become part of the patient record in MUSE and the EMR so that any physician in the network involved in the patient’s care can interact with them.

Earlier this week, GE Healthcare introduced the Edison Digital Health platform at HIMSS. The platform is being developed to enable hospitals and healthcare systems to effectively deploy the clinical, workflow, analytics, and AI tools.
