In June 2016, Telenor Group, described on its corporate website as a large mobile operator with more than 185 million customers throughout Asia, launched a digital health service called Tonic through its health subsidary, Telenor Health.

Tonic is being introduced first in Bangladesh through Grameenphone, a Telenor mobile operator. According to a press release, Tonic's services are available to Grameenphone's 57 million customers.

According to the release about the launch, Tonic customers will be able to choose from four options, including "Jibon (Life)" for informative content in Bengali, "Daktar (Doctor)" for telemedicine access to medical advice, "Discounts" for lower prices for care at certain hospitals around the country, and "Cash" to receive payments for hospitalizations of a certain length.

"We strongly believe the introduction of Tonic into the healthcare ecosystem will improve health care attitudes and perceptions by allowing everyday people easy access to aspirational information for preventative health, hospital discounts, and expert medical advice instantly without prohibitive costs," Mr. Sajid Rahman, CEO of Telenor Health, said in the release.
