2003: Cordis Corp.’s Cypher is the first drug-eluting stent approved in the United States.

2006: FDA lifts its 14-year ban on silicone gel breast implants.

2007: Five orthopedics manufacturers settle with the U.S. Department of Justice over allegations that they paid kickbacks to surgeons for favoring their hip and knee implants.

2008: AdvaMed updates its code of ethics to emphasize restrictions on promotional items and gifts, clarify guidelines on royalty arrangements, and create parameters for providing products for educational purposes.
