Tinni-Stim

Name your device and explain how it works?

Tinni-Stim(TS) is a Class II medical device that treats tinnitus. TS is a neuromodulation device that restores normal cortical function and suppresses cortical hyperactivity, that lessens the awareness of tinnitus and its impact on quality of life.

ï¿¼What problem in healthcare does the device solve?

Tinnitus is a perception of sound in proximity to the head in the absence of an external source. According to the American Tinnitus Association, an estimated 50 million people in the United States have chronic tinnitus, persisting for greater than six months. For 12 million, it is severe enough to interfere with daily activities. These people are effectively disabled by their tinnitus to varying degrees. The impact of tinnitus on an individual can be significant. Some individuals "experience" tinnitus, while others "suffer from it. Chronic tinnitus is unlikely to remit completely.

ï¿¼Why should the device be commercialized?

An estimated 50 million people in the United States have chronic tinnitus, persisting for greater than six months. For 12 million, it is severe enough to interfere with daily activities. These people are effectively disabled by their tinnitus to varying degrees. Tinni-Stim is a non-invasive device that is efficacious, safe, affordable, and does not require a great deal of operator training to use.

What inspired you to design this device?

I also have tinnitus. As a physician, I have encountered many patients with this problem. After reviewing available products, very few affordable non-invasive devices are available for the consumer. I have designed this device to be safe, efficacious, and cost effective.
