Name your device and explain how it works?
ETG helps with and confirms correct placement of endotracheal tube in less than a minute.
What problem in healthcare does the device solve?
Tracheal intubation is a common, emergent and a critical therapeutic procedure. When done correctly, it is a life-saving and life-sustaining intervention. It is time critical and needs high level of skill and training. Misplaced tracheal tube can lead to disastrous outcomes, including death. Incorrect tracheal tube placement is a fairly common complication occurring in 5% - 15% of cases. Timely confirmation of tracheal tube placement is crucial to obtain good clinical outcomes and avoid complications.
Why should the device be commercialized?
ETG is a simple, non-invasive, disposable device that is easy to learn and easy to use. It replaces the need for using end-tidal CO2 detector and chest X-ray. It can decrease complications, save money & personnel time, while obviating the need for an X-ray, thus eliminating radiation risk for the patient & staff.
What inspired you to design this device?
A burning need for something simpler and better! I am a practicing emergency physician and researcher.
