COVID-19 Testing by the Numbers: FDA Updates Authorization Stats

A quick look at the number of COVID-19 tests FDA has authorized across all the various types of testing now on the market.

In February 2020, FDA issued an emergency use authorization (EUA) for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's COVID-19 test, marking the beginning of a frenzy of EUAs issued for COVID-19 tests. As of Aug. 3, 2021, 398 tests and sample collection devices are authorized under an EUA, and the authorized tests include everything from molecular tests, antigen tests, and antibody tests, with some being authorized as over-the-counter at-home tests. Click the slideshow to see a breakdown of the numbers at a glance. FDA has also authorized 595 revisions to EUA authorizations to date.
