Placon has held a groundbreaking ceremony at the start of construction at its Elkhart, IN, facility located at 2901 Oakland Avenue. The new $15 million addition will house manufacturing of custom plastic packaging for the medical device and healthcare industries.
The Elkhart facility is ISO 13485 certified and houses Class 100,000 cleanrooms. It performs thermoforming, inline flexographic lid printing, and die-cutting and produces BargerGard protective products as well as lift labels, among other operations.
“Our Elkhart facility is in the middle of two large Medical clusters: Warsaw, Indiana; and Chicago, Illinois. We have built the most knowledgeable sales force in North America and our customers have responded with new opportunities; now it’s time to modernize our factory and further separate from our competitors,” said Dan Mohs, Chairman and CEO, in a news release. “This investment will allow us to provide our customers best in class service and quality with twice the capacity.”
Added Mike Nielsen, General Manager-Elkhart: “Medical packaging customers demand precise, custom sterile packaging. With the additional manufacturing capacity and our years of medical expertise, we help our customers navigate the complex validation process and get products to market faster.”
The new addition will double the thermoforming capacity at the Elkhart location and will increase cleanroom manufacturing, warehouse, and office space. A design center is also planned for enhanced project collaboration and increased speed to market. The facility will be operational summer 2021.
