Insulation-displacement connectors
AVXThe 9175 and 9176 IDC series of surface-mount, wire-to-board insulation-displacement connectors have been designed by AVX Corp. to simplify the wire termination processes used to connect discrete wire components to a PCB, bring power and signals onto a PCB, and daisychain PCBs. Featuring a current rating of 1 A per contact and a voltage rating of 150 V ac, the former series terminates 26- to 28-AWG wires. The latter has a current rating of 10 A per contact, a voltage rating of 300 V ac, and the ability to terminate 18- to 24-AWG wires. Small and engineered for long-term reliability, the connectors have a one-piece design that enables users to insert discrete wires into the plastic cap without requiring prior stripping. Pressing the cap down provides a secure gastight termination. The cap holds the contact in position for automatic placement before acting as the assembly tool for terminating the wires.Available in end-stop and through-wire configurations and backward compatible with previously existing series, the connectors feature UL
94V-0-rated nylon insulator material, phosphor bronze contacts, and tinover-nickel plating.

Push-pull interconnect
FischerThe ultra-high-density MiniMax push-pull interconnect system from Fischer Connectors USA is a rugged miniaturized connector designed for smaller devices. An all-in-one 20-signal (0.5-A per signal) and 4-power (5-A) connector with 24 mixed contacts, the interconnect offers durability of better than 500 mating cycles. It has passed tests to establish suitability for use in harsh environments. The connector has a profile of less than 7 mm inside the box, a design that prevents power and signal from interfering with each other, and an unbreakable keying system that withstands more than 4 Nm of torque. It is delivered precabled.

Board-to-wire connector
hiroseThe rugged, miniature DF60-series board-to-wire connector has the capacity to handle up to 40 A and features multiple elements to prevent mismating and ensure a secure connection. Available from Hirose Electric in straight, right-angle, and in-line connection styles, the connector offers a reliable five-point contact design with independent contact springs. It also features guards designed into the connector body to preclude cable snaring and a center lock with a clear tactile click to confirm proper mating and protect against half-locking and uneven side-locking. The center lock helps conserve PCB space and allow high-density mating. This user-friendly, RoHS-compliant connector resists strong vibration and has a rated voltage of 1000 V ac/dc; it can withstand 3000 V ac for 1 minute. Its wire conductors range in size from 8 to 12 AWG and can tolerate as many as 30 insertion-and-withdrawal cycles. The device is designed to make assembly operations quick and easy.

USB 3.0 connectors
Mill-MaxMill-Max Mfg. Corp. has expanded its family of USB connectors with the addition of four SuperSpeed (USB 3.0) connectors that offer a 5-Gbps signaling rate and thus provide 10 times faster data transfer than Hi-Speed USB. Both standardsized and microminiature USB 3.0 connectors are available. The standard ninepin connectors come in trays in two different configurations for through-hole mounting, are fully shielded, and have plug retention tabs and kinked locating legs for secure PCB retention. Smaller and lighter than other USB connectors for portable and handheld devices, the micro USB 3.0 connectors feature 10 pins and a 0.026-in. pitch to minimize the board space required for mounting. They are supplied in vertical-mount and horizontal surface-mount versions on tape-and-reel.
