Miniature dispense pumps

0011p40a.jpg Miniature chemically inert dispense pumps offer consistent performance in a compact package. Suitable for use in automated clinical instruments, the pumps are available in both preset (50 ml) and variable-volume models, and offer significant size and weight savings over conventional syringe or peristaltic pumps. Variable-volume pumps are available in 50-, 250-, and 750-ml configurations, dispensing in 0.1-, 0.5-, and 1.5- ml increments, respectively. CV is only 0.04% at full stroke. Power consumption for all units is less than 2.5 W. Designed to be maintenance free, the pumps are 100% tested and inspected to ensure reliable operation and long life, and are offered in a variety of porting options and mounting styles for design flexibility. The Lee Co., P.O. Box 424, Westbrook, CT 06498-0424.

0011p40b.jpg Gear pumps

Gear pumps are suitable for accurate metering, dispensing, or transferring of fluids in medical devices. Flow rates range up to 1.5 gpm, and pressures range up to 125 psi. Various motor options are available and pump life ranges to 10,000 hours. The gear pumps are positive displacement and self-priming. Body, gear, and seal materials are compatible with a wide range of fluids. Gorman-Rupp Industries, 180 Hines Ave., Bellville, OH 44813.

0011p40c.jpg Air compressor/vacuum pump

A diaphragm air compressor/vacuum pump can easily achieve an open flow of 20 L/min and a maximum pressure of 2.5 psi while maintaining a life expectancy of more than 10,000 hours. With its oil-free, lightweight, quiet, and compact design, the Model VC0101 is suited for many medical applications, including airbeds. Medo USA Inc., 4525 Turnberry Dr., Hanover Park, IL 60103-5492.

Two ultraquiet (>45-dBa) pumps incorporate oversized ball bearings to ensure maintenance-free operation. A new flow-enhanced design increases the pumps' performance. The dc motor, single-head style can develop pressure to 29 psi, vacuum to 20 in.Hg, and open flow of 8.7 L/min. The twin-head version can achieve 27 psi, 27 in.Hg, and open flow to 19 L/min; both ac and dc motors are available. EPDM diaphragms and valves are standard, and neoprene is optional. Gast Manufacturing Inc., P.O. Box 97, Benton Harbor, MI 49023-0097.

0011p40d.jpg Pump with contamination-proof design

An easy-to-load pump features customization capabilities and a contamination-proof design. Suitable for the medical OEM market, the Model 313D features secure clamps that maximize clearance during loading, preventing tampering in surgical applications. To maintain the purity of the pumped product, the pump has no valves, is self-priming, and can run dry without incurring damage. Loading is error-free and involves only three simple steps. The pump is available with multiple options. Watson-Marlow Inc., 220 Ballardvale St., Wilmington, MA 01887.

0011p40e.jpg Micro air pump

Occupying less than 1.0 cu in. of total volume, a micro air pump is a suitable choice for OEMs that require a pump of minimal size and weight. The AAA-series pump was designed for such applications as blood pressure monitoring, medicine delivery systems, and air-monitoring devices. Its unique valve design allows the pump
to deliver performance levels typical of a much larger pump. Sensidyne, 16333 Bay Vista Dr., Clearwater, FL 33760.

0011p40f.jpg Syringe pumps

A pump's coaxial-drive design, coupled with a choice of valves, provides high precision and durability for a wide range of applications. The stepper motor/leadscrew pump integrates reliable mechanical and fluidic functions. A variety of piston seal designs and a large selection of syringe barrel sizes are available, as is customization. TriContinent, 12555 Loma Rd., Grass Valley, CA 95945.

0011p40g.jpg Miniature peristaltic pumps

A series of miniature peristaltic pumps deliver 0.0003 to 22 ml/min. Fluids contact only removable, sterilizable tube sets that are available in a range of sizes and materials. Typical power consumption is 0.5 to 1 W, which is ideal for battery power. Speed-control circuitry is included. Pumps measure 1.1 X 1.3 X 2.4 in. Instech Laboratories Inc., 5209 Militia Hill Rd., Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462.

0011p40h.jpg Diaphragm pumps

Miniature diaphragm pumps feature air, vacuum, and liquid capabilities. The manufacturer specializes in pumps with low voltages (6, 12, and 19 V dc), flow up to 10 L/min, pressures up to 35 psi, and vacuum up to 26 in.Hg. It holds patents for different aspects of pump designs that make them suitable for many diaphragm pump applications. Its engineers can rapidly produce virtually any type of diaphragm pump prototype. ACI Medical, 1857 Diamond St., San Marcos, CA 92069.

0011p40i.jpg Miniature liquid diaphragm pumps

A line of miniature liquid pumps features brushless dc motors. Portable instruments can benefit from such motors which, in addition to long life, are EMI/RFI resistant, lightweight, and more compact than traditional ac motors. The liquid diaphragm pumps provide consistent, reliable operation over their lifetime, eliminating tubing fatigue or failure. Featuring a corrosion-resistant PVDF/FFPM/PTFE envelope, they can handle acids, caustics, and other difficult materials. They are self-priming and will run dry indefinitely. KNF Neuberger, 2 Black Forest Rd., Trenton, NJ 08691-1810.
