Global plastics compounder Teknor Apex has expanded its medical-grade thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) portfolio with new grades specifically designed for biopharmaceutical tubing applications. TPEs are suited for applications that require flexibility or rubber-like elasticity, said the company, a supplier of regulatory compliant Medalist-branded TPEs for medical and pharmaceutical applications.

The new Medalist TPE grades offer a combination of performance benefits, including:

  • Enhanced clarity. Transparency allows visual inspection of fluid flow and potential particle contamination.

  • Reduced spallation. Material loss and contamination risks are minimized during extended pump operation.

  • Extended pump life. Increased durability and longevity of tubing reduces maintenance requirements and downtime.

The advanced materials are designed to address the challenges associated with the continuous processing of biopharmaceuticals through roller pumps, and are suited for a range of biopharma applications including single-use systems, bioreactors, filtration systems, and fluid transfer lines, according to Teknor Apex.

The new TPEs will be featured at Compamed, the companion event to Medica, the world’s largest medical technology trade show, in Düsseldorf, Germany. Teknor Apex is exhibiting in booth F 20-04 in hall 8B; Compamed runs from Nov. 11 to 14, 2024.

Family-owned Teknor Apex is celebrating its centennial this year. It produces flexible and rigid vinyl, TPEs, nylons, engineering thermoplastics, thermoplastic vulcanizate, color masterbatches, specialty chemicals, and garden hoses. The company is headquartered in Pawtucket, RI, and operates 14 manufacturing facilities worldwide in the United States, Belgium, Germany, China, and Singapore.
