The company said the Extended Wear Medical Transfer Adhesive 4075 offers initial skin adhesion with up to a 14-day wear time, depending on the backing material used.

It’s no secret about the importance of the role adhesives play in medical devices. Adhesives continue to become more prominent as the use and popularity of wearable technologies in healthcare grows.

3M is capitalizing on this fact and has developed Extended Wear Medical Transfer Adhesive, 4075 to its lineup of advanced adhesives for medical devices. Designed to laminate many substrates, 3M medical transfer adhesive, 4075 features an extended wear pressure sensitive transfer adhesive and allows design engineers to use a variety of backings.

The Maplewood, MN-based company said the 3M medical transfer adhesive, 4075 offers initial skin adhesion with up to a 14-day wear time, depending on the backing material used.

Marcello Napol, Vice President in 3M’s Medical Solutions Division, said the 4075 transfer adhesive is really the third in a suite of offerings in its extended-wear adhesive family.

“We were really listening to our partners and design engineers in medical device companies on a more flexible offering,” Napol told MD+DI. “Not flexible in terms of physical abilities but more flexible in terms of design. Here’s a product that you can use with any type of backing whatsoever, because it truly is a transfer adhesive.”

The company said the Medical transfer adhesive, 4075 meets requirements to use on intact skin. It has been tested to ISO:10993-5 and ISO:10993-10, which assess the in vitrocytotoxicity and a product’s potential to produce irritation and skin sensitization, respectively. It is ethylene oxide sterilization compatible. The tape is part of the extensive adhesives product line 3M offers the medical device manufacturing, design and supply industries.
