Recently LivaNova, a company that develops cardiac surgery and neuromodulation devices, appointed medtech veteran, Brooke Story to its board. She will serve as a director and as a member of the London-based company’s Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee.

Story has been in the healthcare industry for more than 25 years, starting her career in consulting, with stints at Johnson & Johnson, Medtronic, and Becton Dickinson & Co (BD). She currently serves as worldwide president, Integrated Diagnostic Solutions at BD. Prior to, that, she worked for 15 years in various roles in finance, sales, and business unit leadership at Medtronic, culminating in her tenure as president of Pelvic Health and Gastric Therapies.

“Once I was exposed to working in healthcare, I never looked back,” Brooke Story said in an interview with MD+DI, explaining why she chose this industry as her career path. “I was an engineering graduate and, upon graduation, was exposed to the med tech industry working for a company that produced clotting products for hemophiliacs,” she said. “I was in my early 20s, and it was life-changing, the idea that I could have a career bringing therapies and solutions to people who are suffering from disease.”

She brings that enthusiasm to her new position at LivaNova. It was the organization’s commitment to improve and sustain quality of life for patients that influenced Story to accept the board of directors’ role. “This commitment is tied to my personal beliefs around the good that med tech companies, and everyone in healthcare can do,” Story said. “I’m impressed with the LivaNova innovation, their board, and their management team.”

When asked what she hopes to achieve during her time at LivaNova, she replied, “I plan to work with the Board to support the company’s innovation and ongoing delivery of life-changing medical technologies in the coming years.”

“Over the course of her career, Brooke has excelled in helping large medical device corporations inspire their teams, mentor and develop talent, and deliver economic value,” said William Kozy, Chair of the LivaNova Board, in a prepared statement. “Her insight will prove valuable to the Board as we work to guide the company toward continued growth and success.”

Story joins nine other directors on the LivaNova board.
