Making Renal Denervation Sexy: A Look at the Vessix Vascular V2 System – Part 2
Making Renal Denervation Sexy: A Look at the Vessix Vascular V2 - Part 2Design firm Karten Design (Los Angeles) decided that simplicity would be the key element in transforming the prototype into a market-ready product, and leveraged the system’s graphic user interface to make renal denervation simple for interventional cardiologists to learn and use.Informed by design research in the cardiac catheterization lab, the team made user interface recommendations such as single-button operation, intuitive graphics, and minimal on-screen information.Developing the V2 generator hardware and user interface simultaneously allowed Karten Design to create a symbiosis that improves the system’s usability and adds to a cohesive, brand-building appearance. At the heart of the design, a full-color, iPad-inspired screen draws doctors into the procedure. The vivid, high-resolution interface stands apart from other hospital equipment.Karten Design created the Vessix company logo that appears on the splash screen when the generator is powered on. The starburst-inspired logo represents how Vessix is causing a distortion in the pattern of medical practice.

The V2 System from Vessix Vascular may not yet be on the market yet, but the renal denervation system is already shaking things up in the cardiovascular device space. Designed by Karten Design (Los Angeles), the Vessix technology features a consumer-technology–inspired design. MPMN has already provided a glimpse at the unique use of aluminum in the generator units. Now, in this feature, we take a look at one of the most prominent features of the device: its iPad-inspired graphic user interface.

The technology, which was acquired by Boston Scientific, can be seen at work in the following video:
