Startup Developing Low-Cost Monitoring Platform In The ICU Seeks $3M

A Minnesota-based startup is looking to raise $3 million to develop innovative, low-cost wireless monitoring platform in the intensive care unit.

The twist is that while Vios Medical is based in the U.S., it is using research and development capability from India to develop its product.

Of the $3 million it is seeking, Vios has already raised $1.7 million, according to a regulatory filing.

The company's website is scant on details about the startup and its product but says that the people behind the company have a combined 75 years of experience in "medical sensor technology, wireless communication infrastructure, and cloud computing. This unique combination of competencies, coupled with over 75 years of collective experience and over 120 patents across the medical device, software, and cellular industries translates into a team that is highly capable of executing our vision."

The regulatory filing names three people associated with the company - Amit Patel and Nisha Manicka, both of who are company officers and on its board, and Raj Patel, who is an officer of Vios Medical.

Amit Patel is the Minnesota company's treasurer and vice president of finance and business development.

Though the company will tap into India's research expertise, the website notes that the resulting product is not intended for India or developing markets alone. Vios Medical hopes to commercialize its products in mature markets as well.
