Omron Scientific Technologies Inc. (Omron STI; Fremont, CA) will be hosting more than 35 training seminars in different cities across the United States this summer. From June through August, the company will present its Skill Builder seminars to offer attendees concentrated day-long training in machine safeguarding and the correct application of guarding devices. The seminars are designed to educate plant engineering and production management personnel on the requirements and methods of machine and process safeguarding to help them identify and, if necessary, correct safeguarding discrepancies.Limited to 30 attendees, each session will cover how to identify machine hazards, conduct machine hazard risk assessment, and the latest safeguarding technologies. Guarding requirements as set by regulatory standards, as well as risk-based safety circuit design requirements, will also be addressed.Named by research firm Frost & Sullivan (Mountain View, CA) as the North American Machine Safety Company of 2008, Omron provides safety products for a variety of automated equipment and machinery. Quick to clarify that the seminars are not a sales pitch, Omron instead is presenting the seminars as a way for companies to ask and answer serious questions about their processing environment: Are your company's machines guarded to relevant standards? Have all steps been taken to prevent injuries from processing equipment? Has a documented machine guarding assessment been performed on your machines to verify compliance? "If a company cannot definitively answer 'yes' to these questions, they are an ideal candidate to benefit from the Skill Builder seminar," says John Peabody, Omron STI vice president. The schedule for the Skill Builder series is available on Omron STI's Web site. More than ten seminars will be presented each month in different cities, from Los Angeles to Seattle, Detroit to Houston, and Atlanta to New York City.
