The volume of unemployed workers in the United States is still troubling. But there is good news on the horizon for some Utah residents, at least. Nelson Laboratories (Salt Lake City, UT), a company specializing in microbiology testing of medical devices, has announced that it plans to hire up to 300 people during the next 10 years; as many as 100 of those jobs could be offered this year.An expansion of the workforce comes on the heels of the recent completion of the company's 50,000-sq-ft facility. The new plant will feature two floors of offices and one floor of fully-equipped laboratories. Connecting to the company's original facility, the new plant brings Nelson Labs' square-footage total to 110,000. In addition to expanded laboratory and office space, the new facility will house such features as a gym, cafeteria with company-subsidized lunches, and child care.Nelson Labs offers a range of testing services to the medical device industry. Services provided include facility and process validation, barrier material tests, toxicology and biocompatibility, reusable device studies, EtO and steam sterilization validation, radiation sterilization validation, package testing, product validation and lot-release testing, microbial identification and analysis, and disinfectant tests.
