The Galway-domiciled company is transferring two manufacturing lines from an $18-million facility that was formerly operated by Covidien.

Following Medtronic's roughly $50-billion acquisition of Covidien, the company is reevaluating the use of buildings it acquired. Earlier this month, the company announced that it would be closing its Mansfield, MA-based building that had formerly been the U.S. headquarters for Covidien.

Now, Medtronic has announced that it is relocating two manufacturing lines Gunbarrel manufacturing facility in Boulder, CO to other locations. Further changes are to come as part of the reshuffle, which the company describes as a multi-year project that is expected to be complete by 2019.

The company has not disclosed how many workers might be affected in the short-term or long-term, but spokesperson John Jordan stated that no positions would be immediately affected, according to Times-Call.

The facility had been used for both research and development and manufacturing for novel products since the construction of the facility was completed in 2012. Products that were identified as "matured" are transferred to other Medtronic manufacturing locations.

Medtronic currently employs some 1700 workers in Boulder County, CO.

When the 63,000-sq-ft facility was built in 2012, the local newspaper the Daily Camera declared that it would "foster innovation." Half of the facility was dedicated to labs. There were 18 labs onsite at the time of the ribbon-cutting for the building in March 2012.
