Q: Why did you choose to locate in Chicago?
A: We spun out of Northwestern University, in the Chicago-area, and when we were deciding where to start the company, we decided to stay in Chicago. The climate here is becoming very favorable for medtech development, with amazing resources offered [ranging] from Illinois iBIO's PROPEL Center, a nonprofit that supports life science start-ups; to the Chicago Innovation Mentor's Network, a mentor/advisor network for startups; to MATTER, the premier Midwest life science incubator; to Insight Accelerator Labs, an amazing 18-month accelerator for medtech startups—all of which Innoblative participates in.
Q: What are the pros and cons of being outside of traditional medtech hubs?
A: The cost of living is relatively low, the academic and healthcare institutions here are renowned and many, the medical societies meet here, and numerous huge strategic [investors] call Chicagoland home.
