A resident of Monroe, NY is charged with taking a $75,000 bribe for a deal between a metallurgical technology company and his employer, an NJ-based medical device company that was unnamed in the complaint filed in United States District Court in New Jersey.

On March 23, the United States Attorney's Office announced that it was charging Daniel Lawrynowicz (46) with accepting a $75,000 bribe for securing a contract with a metallurgical company, a violation of the Federal Travel Act. The complaint states that the payment was made to Lawrynowicz in 2012 or 2013. 

The charge could be punishable by up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. 

While the complaint does mention Lawyrnowicz's employer, LinkedIn contains an entry of a Daniel Lawyrnowicz who is an employee of Stryker's facility in Mahwah, NJ. 

According to NorthJersey.com, a Stryker spokesperson would not comment on the case or comment on Lawyrnowicz's employment.

The U.S. attorney in the case, Paul J. Fishman, gave credit to special agents of the FBI for their role in the investigation. Fishman leads a healthcare and government fraud unit at the U.S. Attorney's Office. 

A representative of the metallurgical company is cooperating with law enforcement and has acknowledged to law enforcement involvement in the scheme, which went against the policies of Lawyrnowicz's employer. According to the complaint, the representative has provided evidence of "cash withdrawals consistent with such a cash bribe."

According to the complaint, on December 22, 2015, a representative of a metallurgical company made a consensually recorded call to Lawyrnowicz, voicing concern about the $75,000 payment.
