MD+DI has been digging into the world of surgical robotics looking not only the landscape but also at upstart companies looking to shake up the status quo in which Intuitive Surgical is head honcho.

So, continuing on that theme, here are nine robotics companies or technologies that you should be aware of. In alphabetical order they are:

Recognizing the growing importance of robotics in orthopedic surgery, U.K.-based Smith & Nephew purchased Minnesota-based Blue Belt Technologues for $275 million in late 2015. The product is FDA cleared and has CE Mark as well.
