In 2016, Frost & Sullivan transformational health principal analyst Nadim Daher says a number of imaging modalities will start to come into their own.

“In ultrasound, there has been a consistent drive toward miniaturization, and I think it’s a [sector] that’s about to take an even bigger step toward miniaturization,” he says.

Five years ago, ultrasound shrunk to the size of a laptop; now, we’re seeing pocket-size ultrasound that could one day replace the stethoscope. Case in point: Philips’s app-based Lumify ultrasound that pairs with a smartphone or tablet.
